Back to back 100 mile training runs through the Warwickshire countryside has now been achieved. The weather was relatively kind albeit the wind was a bit fierce. No incidents to report other than a few sore knees. Nothing that a hot bath and an early night can’t sort out.
Many debates about which route to go north of Edinburgh - a few choices - one goes straight over the Grampians and I know I’m stupid but I know a problem when I see one. Thanks to David the chauffeur - he’s cracked a much better alternative for us - tracking alongside the A9 into Inverness
Support van sorted - courtesy of Pat - driver - Jaj’s Dad - thanks Eddie. Hundreds of litres of energy drinks, energy bars and gels on order. We’ll each need refueling approximately 8000 calories per day…that’s a lot of chips!
Only a month to go - Friday and Saturday - plan to ride a back to back 100 miles a route which takes down through Coventry, south of Stratford and round in a loop back through Meriden … weather forecast not good!
We hit the local papers - Jaj’s picture is reminiscent of Stephen Hawkins.
Sponsorship is now underway… people are being really generous - thankyou to all so far.
Lots going on - Jaj out training at weekends - I’ve joined him on a few rides. My main training is to and from work. Andy has finally woken up and done 70 miles at the weekend. A sorry tale - no plan …just ride with a fiver plus some energy bars and an energy drink. All going well as he is heading for Derby then decides to turn for home and realises he’s now in one big headwind. Gets lost, phone goes dead - running low on food and drink. Stops at a shop gets his fiver out and the wind catches it as it flies off never to be seen again! (Tee hee. Last three miles apparently hell
The lads have cracked their first 100 mile run. Starting out at 8.15 am in the freezing cold the first stop 1 and three quarter hours later was at Ian’s sister in laws to thaw out and sausage & tom sandwich (ta v muchly). The route looped underneath Stratford and back through Lapworth (where Ian ended up underneath a parked car…not v funny). Total route 99.8 miles 6800 calories and avge speed 13.7 miles per hour. Got home at 6.10pm. Bit of a wake up call for Wilson to increase training!
Jaj and Ian do 40 miles with a well earned pint afterwards. Ja follows up with a similar ride on the Sunday
